How to Make Healthy Eating Fun

One of the biggest challenges I have run into when trying to clean up my diet is figuring out how to make it fun. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut where you are eating the same oatmeal for breakfast, the same salad for lunch, and the same stir fry for dinner each night. We find something we like and we stick with it until we are so sick of it we think that eating healthy is super boring and we start reaching for the processed foods and sugary desserts again.

It doesn’t have to be that way! Healthy eating can be extremely fun if you keep these three things in mind. Keep reading to see my three tips on how to make healthy eating fun!

  • Variety. Each day when you prepare your meals and snacks try to get a good variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, etc so that you aren’t eating the same things day in and day out. Having some staple meals that you like to eat is awesome, but can be boring if you don’t throw in a different snack or side dish to go with it. You want to mix it up! If your friend makes the same lasagna that you do ask to see what they pair with it for new ideas to add variety to your meals.
  • Recipe test. Take some time to experiment with lots of different recipes! Learning how to cook different types of foods will give you more options to choose from when you open the pantry and decide what you want for dinner. Plan to have a few staples but also try to make at least 1 new recipe each week/every other week. This will give you a fresh taste every few days and will help you explore what foods you like. Some may be disasters but I can promise you will also find a few new staple meals and snacks!
  • Look around for inspiration! Explore different food blogs online or cookbooks in your local library. Even if you don’t try any of the actual recipes you will gain inspiration for different food pairings or a new way to cook an old favorite. It’s also fun to browse through food centered social media accounts. You might see a picture of a pretty smoothie bowl or salad that you want to try to recreate in your own unique way! Finally, look up different restaurants in your area and find some fun places to give a try the next time you have a dinner date. You’ll get to see more or your city and you will also bring home inspiration for you home kitchen!

Whether you are just starting to try to eat healthier or you are looking for help in getting out of a rut of eating the same things over and over I hope this post was helpful!
